Easy Gingerbread House Recipe

Mix together well:
6 cups all purpose flour
½ tsp. baking powder
4 tsp. ground ginger 4 tsp. ground cinnamon
½ tsp. ground cloves or allspice
½ tsp salt.

Cream together 1½ sticks of butter and 1½ cups brown sugar (packed). Add: 2 lg. eggs, 1 cup dark molasses, 1 tbsp. water. Blend well, then add your flour one half at a time. Again – blend well. Then wrap in plastic put in refrigerator and let rest for at least 2 hours and up to two days.

See how easy this is? Roll out to desired shape. Bake at 350 for about 12 – 14 minutes. When the edges turn dark it's done. Leave out the spices if you want. It comes out the same but it won't have that nice holiday smell. After a few days this stuff turns into a good imitation of concrete. Click here for downloadable PDF

Royal Icing

This is the glue that holds the house together.

2 large egg whites
2-2/3 cups powdered sugar

Whip them together but add the sugar ½ at a time. When stiff peaks form it's done. Use it fast, it dries out very quickly. Use a pastry bag if you have one. I use plastic bags with a tip cut off. Click here for downloadable PDF
